Our Goal For This Mentorship

There are many reasons to be interested in a mentorship program. Perhaps you’re preparing for your next BEI test and want accountability with your practice time…or maybe you’re looking for more structured support and feedback at your current level. Whatever your reason for participating in a mentorship program, the reason we chose to offer one is simple: we wish to support interpreters as they work towards becoming certified at a higher level. We know certification is one of the more daunting aspects of becoming an interpreter (we’ve been there). A mentorship is just one of many tools and resources out there for interpreters to utilize in order to feel ready and confident when they go to test.

Who Needs Mentoring?

Interpreting students need mentors in the field to help them bridge the space between the end of the ITP and the time they are ready to pass their certification exam. However, new interpreters are not the only ones who seek the guidance of a mentor. Often interpreters who have been working in the field for several years will request the guidance of another interpreter with more experience when they are preparing to test for the next level of certification or want to deepen their knowledge in a particular area, such as legal work or mental health. Sometimes interpreters can be a mentor and a mentee at the same time, helping others while working on their own skill set.

Upon Completion of Mentorship…

Once you have completed your mentorship, documentation of your participation will be sent to MCDHH, who is sponsoring this CEU course. You will also send the certificate of completion from this course during the CEU renewal period proving you gained 10 CEUs with your participation.
